Tiny Tastebuds, Big Flavors

We were stuck in a culinary rut it seems. Egg omelet, soup [squash, sweet potato, broccoli], baba’s blintzes, cereal were main staples in our house. How long will a child tolerate a monotonous diet like this?

I’ve been looking into new and exciting dishes to refresh Sophia’s palate and introduce new foods. Recent newcomers are sweet potato pudding (so good, I’d eat it), spinach and ricotta gnocchi, blueberry-lemon pancakes, and chicken fingers (homemade of course) with pasta sauce and ketchup.

The real challenge here isn’t that I am short on recipes, but rather that I am limited by Sophia’s dental, or more specifically lack thereof, situation. We’re working with just SIX teeth and we all know she won’t be digging into a fried chicken thigh anytime soon.

Have a good children’s menu repertoire? Please share.

That is always a good one, albeit it feels like a fall ingredient. Nonetheless, will be trying pancake recipes with pumpkin.

She might stay that conservative, sometimes it’s just part of who they are. My boy was never very easy to feed, but these days I just want to kill myself every time we get to the lunch time.

The baby is amazing, she would eat almost anything, and for sure anything we eat. So if Sophia is not picky by nature, but just limited by the lack of teeth, this shouldn’t stop you from giving her almost anything you eat. Libi didn’t have many teeth at that age either (she’s still missing 4, btw), but she ate chicken and beef – roasted, cooked, stewed, even nibbled on steak. We just gave her very small pieces and she somehow did very well with them. She’s a hungry (and very curious) kid, what can I say?!! Other than that, she ate rice, veggies – fresh and sauteed, potatoes, buckwheat, and what not… Don’t limit yourself by kiddie menu, try feeding her off your table, just be close, she’ll be fine!

Thats great advice. I try to do that… to feed her from the table but always worry she won’t eat enough. She’s such a skinny minnie. What we do now is feed her first, then we give her anything she wants from our menu while we eat. She’s definitely opinionated … hubby of course is ready to start to amp up her spiciness levels :-).
